Definitely one of my favorites when I was a kid! </span><br /><span style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102);"><br />I wanted to flip the mood of this poster around a bit.. to show the softer side of this badass, rough-and-tumble Terminator character. Who's to say he didn't celebrate Valentine's Day? Or Cinco de Mayo? ... or even Flag Day? I bet he loves them all.<br /><br />This piece was definitely a challenge. I</span><span style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102);"> first</span><span style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102);"> took Katie's advice (via Lawrence Yang) to mount the poster onto Elmer's Foam Board, then I sealed the whole thing with a coating of matte medium.. both of which worked like a charm. I was originally going to try to paint directly onto the poster (or if that didn't work, the matte medium), but I use gouache so it didn't work too well. That left me with collaging in a background to work on, which was pretty tedious. Some of the flowers and leaves (and other random doodles) are drawn onto that first layer of collage, but a lot were drawn separately on different types of paper and then added in on top. For the title and tagline, however... I had to rely on photoshop and my ink-jet printer. Once I got the type, sizing, and color perfect, I printed them out, sealed them with matte medium, and glued them onto the poster. That actually worked better than I thought it would.. you can't even tell unless you get a couple inches away from the surface..<br /><br />Well.. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of the posters.. Wish I could make it out for the opening!<br /><br />- Tim<br /></span>Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-35258173010863199822009-09-15T10:27:00.000-07:002009-09-15T10:30:51.086-07:00Bio Top Pee Wee (Bioshock vs Pee Wee)<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwdUDi-4X-GF6W4p-jI0szuXqwAemNYrUPhyphenhyphendZZ5fCchdu78DAcsYzbs7oT7u63-E762CWexShxyyKCGiY85uLL3qbsT9xHa1-ZdfMWjW9-rD3uWqM-4IGqZk5_JlMtYbrbWuCb_SlYZAv/s1600-h/190952.1020.A.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 210px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwdUDi-4X-GF6W4p-jI0szuXqwAemNYrUPhyphenhyphendZZ5fCchdu78DAcsYzbs7oT7u63-E762CWexShxyyKCGiY85uLL3qbsT9xHa1-ZdfMWjW9-rD3uWqM-4IGqZk5_JlMtYbrbWuCb_SlYZAv/s320/190952.1020.A.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381738563499362818" /></a><br /><br />+<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWtkZMzO5gcdZV9BShFUQkw9ZQPqvhg-eWfZxf8wKK-eYHySdj8qyQbIwhls-F5vr-92CflgNyQPgkENZqEZfM7vBY7XufpEy4RTJQN-KW0T5S3h-tYpKO3PWAQF4QYSVOgdFYcSMtgxGL/s1600-h/splicer2.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 256px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWtkZMzO5gcdZV9BShFUQkw9ZQPqvhg-eWfZxf8wKK-eYHySdj8qyQbIwhls-F5vr-92CflgNyQPgkENZqEZfM7vBY7XufpEy4RTJQN-KW0T5S3h-tYpKO3PWAQF4QYSVOgdFYcSMtgxGL/s320/splicer2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381738734858647346" /></a><br /><br />=<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj29-Sd4eS1NSYNMdccqgTdjPFVtYtlG_yv05c6XdC26KVOElcuXP57uninYkepAIVdcaBWLmt7_oqXw1cFMrmn3ltv1NPsAsq1O0X2u_X-lS4JHitbU_Do-z8DYrPhLsag2xowXrLHotNK/s1600-h/med+best+pee+wee.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 226px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj29-Sd4eS1NSYNMdccqgTdjPFVtYtlG_yv05c6XdC26KVOElcuXP57uninYkepAIVdcaBWLmt7_oqXw1cFMrmn3ltv1NPsAsq1O0X2u_X-lS4JHitbU_Do-z8DYrPhLsag2xowXrLHotNK/s320/med+best+pee+wee.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379592139649395586" /></a><br />Cory Benhatzel<br />"Bio Top Pee Wee"<br />acrylic on movie poster<br />41 x 27 inches<br />$250.00<br /><br />Yes, I turned Pee Wee into a Splicer from Bioshock, the best game in the world (in my humble opinion). <br /><br />Pee Wee was my hero growing up; I religiously watched him every Saturday morning and still watch his Christmas Special every year. Believe it or not, I still use the original VHS tape of the special that my parents recorded off TV for me 21 (!!!!) years ago! <br />Damn, I love me some Pee Wee Christmas Special.<br /><br />I even remember crying harder when my dad told me that Pee Wee didn't exist than I did when I found out that there was no Santa Claus.<br /><br />I was very excited that I was getting a Pee Wee poster to work with, but I was stumped on how to transform the poster. Justin and I were a LITTLE busy these past six months (moving cross country, buying our first house, getting new jobs and cars and getting married!) so this poster sat in it's tube for a few months.<br /><br />I finally had the epiphany to combine two of my favorite things- Pee Wee and a Splicer from Bioshock. <br />Pee Wee is complete with his hypo of Eve, his pistol and his butterfly mask. I also think that his deranged expression perfectly fits the mood. I love this poster and hope that you do too.<br /><br /><3 coryGallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-20888128083913264492009-09-12T17:27:00.000-07:002009-09-12T20:45:15.217-07:00Friday the 13th - parts 1 through 9<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVX06LVJACNPyybXkHl5Swv49g7chm2bNvX857pd3kW7i5Sxn0YA0S_tn7T9gDW9oQGHYTKXb_uFPwzXEjbMs5WD1FPkJ6VbhQBtNL6JHLysymGS7hHiaaJc7AppxpndNH5c2EyRLX5r4/s1600-h/FRIDAY+THE+13TH.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 355px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVX06LVJACNPyybXkHl5Swv49g7chm2bNvX857pd3kW7i5Sxn0YA0S_tn7T9gDW9oQGHYTKXb_uFPwzXEjbMs5WD1FPkJ6VbhQBtNL6JHLysymGS7hHiaaJc7AppxpndNH5c2EyRLX5r4/s400/FRIDAY+THE+13TH.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5380742518861166274" /></a><br /><br />Hi, here is a quick grid to show some of the work that went into this poster. I hope he doesn't mind, but it's the only thing I could think of when I got the Wild Things poster assignment.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2hkv0uXW0QdPR2TuEbK4LHwxO3uPJlloU9gR_Ql_WvqZX9Xf2H_y5stR_mIC91EmBaoVCGxXRx30ML3k_ydOLXG-AOx3Prs_GD94H35EJ_ojMOZDe_Nxl9B15Ay8z9mlnKoJ5xIWwhLc/s1600-h/andrewWilson_poster_010.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 133px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2hkv0uXW0QdPR2TuEbK4LHwxO3uPJlloU9gR_Ql_WvqZX9Xf2H_y5stR_mIC91EmBaoVCGxXRx30ML3k_ydOLXG-AOx3Prs_GD94H35EJ_ojMOZDe_Nxl9B15Ay8z9mlnKoJ5xIWwhLc/s400/andrewWilson_poster_010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5380298907652556466" /></a><br /><br />here's a pic of it drying before I put some more touches, pack it, and ship it up to SF. This post made me hungry.<br /><br />cheers.<br />&Rew.Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-87670644601550256752009-09-11T12:23:00.000-07:002009-09-18T18:48:31.850-07:00The Dead Pool vs The Chimp Pool<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMrs1E4Va4gT9qmYFIWH5kRk5BiA2nGr_dJ3QQvWx__jzGHGwjpFKh2W-sUPujZd87g8h3cm1XBSpjl3IXuasJEO2m1geE_IT61VFRxwInVZXSf6OLmRKa_Pw-6IkyRu7m0iQrXUQxJsk/s1600-h/ChimpPool_poster_AP.jpg"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer; width: 290px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMrs1E4Va4gT9qmYFIWH5kRk5BiA2nGr_dJ3QQvWx__jzGHGwjpFKh2W-sUPujZd87g8h3cm1XBSpjl3IXuasJEO2m1geE_IT61VFRxwInVZXSf6OLmRKa_Pw-6IkyRu7m0iQrXUQxJsk/s400/ChimpPool_poster_AP.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5382988008351532082" border="0" /></a><br />I thought I'd add some pics to my first post from below. I cut up the target portrait and pasted it into the poster. Like I said, the original plan was to put a bunch of Dirty Harry references on the poster. I was recently talking to a buddy about Eastwood's chimp movie, Any Which Way But Loose. Needless to say, my plan of attack has changed, and I now need to work some Orangutans into this poster. Stay tuned for the finished piece, or check out my art blog to see the final. <a href="http://www.theaugblog.blogspot.com/">http://www.theaugblog.blogspot.com/</a>Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-8997503645427979582009-09-10T15:54:00.000-07:002009-09-10T16:03:30.670-07:00Transforming w/ PHONETICONTROLHere are a few progress shots. (&Rew.)<br />Age: 1 millioin<br />Likes: Monsters, nudity, tempura, scotch, snow flakes<br />Dislikes: human flakes, mold, sunburns, mushrooms<br />Poster: Wild Things<br /><br /><br />i got a poster a long time ago, but i've been super busy forever and a half. Last weekend I started working on stuff to see what would happen.<br /><br />The movie poster is kinda slick and I only paint with markers, ink, watercolor/ ink washes etc. I use acrylic but barely. What does that mean to you? You don't give a f_ck, right? Well that means I can't do my typical thing cause it would slip off the slick paper.<br /><br />I DO however, know how to use a knife, since I was trained as a knife fighter since birth. So I'm gonna draw/paint (or whatever) on something that I know how to deal with - and then mount it to the poster.<br /><br /><br />I tried vellum:<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPX3RgULMnYr3bokf9qobnxloL6sUcJpgB1YiJsORGBrpSwCUnbzHrd1HimCE8sHSHgMy33-OZxCdFwQ9rN6v3CwTQeTc5JZixMz1I56LoFx4oijdgP0O2Y-aF1TmuOMU7LdR_DzX5em0/s1600-h/andrewWilson_poster_001.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373928305790549090" style="WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPX3RgULMnYr3bokf9qobnxloL6sUcJpgB1YiJsORGBrpSwCUnbzHrd1HimCE8sHSHgMy33-OZxCdFwQ9rN6v3CwTQeTc5JZixMz1I56LoFx4oijdgP0O2Y-aF1TmuOMU7LdR_DzX5em0/s400/andrewWilson_poster_001.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>This was my vellum sample page. I just did some random doodles and was going to gesso them onto a magazine to see how they held up.</em><br /><br /><br />The paper curled up like one of those party favor whistles - you know "foooooooooo". Those ones. It curled up like the wicked witch of the east's toes when she got hit by a f_cking house. As we all know, that's a good thing for everybody but the witch - and currently, I play the witch.<br /><br />Result: <strong>F minus</strong><br /><br /><br />I'm sad because that would have looked awesome on the poster . And my idea is to do 7 monsters plus a certain "king" of the monsters and gesso them over the poster.<br /><br />IDK if I wanna crop it down or not though, cause this thing is HUGE. And I may want to mount it to board or something. Cause that always looks nice.<br /><br />So I think, f_ck it. I like drawing on chipotle menus. I have a stack as tall as an elk in my room. I'll make art on those and exacto them out with my knife skills. And try gessoing THAT on.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1OeoSL_QocYb-YAL4S4lAMunWZFvXUSAwBSW5jdBWDO8oXKNz3HSw63V9-2fA2raIsfI8nMD5Y3TIXx3cxZDHYnEKG5T_2Vhmdf8Dq4j8abiDbSMGQbAp_WcG4WZb-kuT_DngA5Y1pso/s1600-h/andrewWilson_poster_002.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373929582393448818" style="WIDTH: 300px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 400px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1OeoSL_QocYb-YAL4S4lAMunWZFvXUSAwBSW5jdBWDO8oXKNz3HSw63V9-2fA2raIsfI8nMD5Y3TIXx3cxZDHYnEKG5T_2Vhmdf8Dq4j8abiDbSMGQbAp_WcG4WZb-kuT_DngA5Y1pso/s400/andrewWilson_poster_002.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>Pre-knife sh_t.</em><br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyj6L1IU2Uxqx82_BPp1UNJeQ2M9vdalAPkPA3AKF-NkVSQQfkulLTF_uQH1W7mwf0SehnnZzHGdvRXTEuOjE9lEuXkteKeDLwwjJFqSaa8jTsWiQBDWwuPhyqAiFNFHrGXO_GFVRpx9s/s1600-h/andrewWilson_poster_003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5373929688631227138" style="WIDTH: 400px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyj6L1IU2Uxqx82_BPp1UNJeQ2M9vdalAPkPA3AKF-NkVSQQfkulLTF_uQH1W7mwf0SehnnZzHGdvRXTEuOjE9lEuXkteKeDLwwjJFqSaa8jTsWiQBDWwuPhyqAiFNFHrGXO_GFVRpx9s/s400/andrewWilson_poster_003.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><em>post-knife opperation.</em><br /><br /><br />So I doodle and then cut and and the paste. It works like a charm. The next thing to do is to see if I can paint white highlights over the gesso (which is a likely yes). Now I have an idea, and I have a plan.<br /><br />I guess this story is to be continued.<br /><br />I'm adding these posts to my personal blog as well, but if you want to check that out it's:<br /><a href="http://www.andrewandavid.blogspot.com/">http://www.andrewandavid.blogspot.com/</a><br /><br />&Rew.Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-75774234985726944192009-08-24T12:05:00.001-07:002009-08-24T12:26:41.692-07:00Look, man, I ain't fallin' for no banana in my tailpipe!Hello, LA based artist Keith Noordzy here (<a href="http://www.quid-squid.com/" target="_blank">http://www.quid-squid.com</a>, <a href="http://www.wonderingart.com/" target="_blank">http://www.wonderingart.com</a>)<br /><br />I was given Beverly Hills Cop to work with, and couldn't have been more happy.<br /><br /><center><a href="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/knoordzy/beverly_hills_cop.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/knoordzy/beverly_hills_cop.jpg" width="500" border="0" /></a></center><br /><br />So, how could I not include the banana in the tailpipe...<br /><br /><center><a href="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/knoordzy/beverlyhillskraken.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a279/knoordzy/beverlyhillskraken.jpg" width="500" border="0" /></a></center><br /><br />This was definitely a challenge, the biggest one being how I could sketch my idea onto the poster. Pencil was out, because if you use an eraser it leaves white streaks. Charcoal didn't work, tried 3 different types. Finally I decided to just go straight at it and paint on my poster. Many many many coates of white gesso later I finally had something I could paint on and didn't stop until I was finished.<br /><br />Some words of advice for other artist...<br /><br />- Just go at it, the hardest part of doing this piece was just starting. It's a little intimidating because you only have one shot<br />- Mount your poster. I went to a framer for this to save me some time and frustration. I was told that regular foam core could possibly warp when in contact with water or water soluble materials, so I went with gator board.<br />- Be careful if you spray with any kind of matte medium/crystal clear/whatever to seal it. It reacts strangely with the colors on the poster.<br /><br />That's it. I wish I could make it up for the show, so have some fun for me.Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-25776835644574871692009-08-18T00:06:00.000-07:002009-08-18T00:10:55.881-07:00Magazine ExperimentHi all. Lawrence Yang here. I'm a San Francisco based artist (my online portfolio is <a href="http://www.suckatlife.com">here</a>.)<br /><br />So I was given the Cocoon poster to work on:<br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.suckatlife.com/images/cocoon.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 207px; height: 318px;" src="http://www.suckatlife.com/images/cocoon.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Should be fun, but the movie poster is made of this kind of reflective paper that I've never painted on before. We only get one shot at this, so decided to practice on the closest thing I could fine -- magazine paper. In this case, an old art catalog for Dick Blick.<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://www.suckatlife.com/images/magazineExperiment.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 575px; height: 383px;" src="http://www.suckatlife.com/images/magazineExperiment.jpg" alt="" border="0" /></a><br />"Magazine Experiment" - 5" x 5"" - ink, watercolor and gouache on magazine paper<br /><br />Worked pretty well, I guess. The paper sort of repelled my attempts to paint a wash on it, but it took the india ink and gouache okay.<br /><br />The paper got all wrinkled though. I'll have to try mounting some magazine paper and experiment some more. I have a few weeks, so there's time!<br /><br />I hope. . . =P<br /><br />Anyone else started working on their posters yet?Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-35998169365374491482009-03-12T15:27:00.001-07:002009-08-28T13:06:04.095-07:00The posters!Alright, we have finally sent out the posters to all of the artists in the show, so now you can see what everyone's working with. We tried to find images of the posters online, so you can see some before shots at the bottom.<br /><br /><strong>2Cents:</strong> The Running Man<br /><strong>Aaron Jasinski:</strong> Bonnie and Clyde<br /><strong>Andrew Hem:</strong> Manhattan<br /><strong>Andrew Wilson:</strong> Wild Things<br /><strong>Augie Pagan:</strong> Dirty Harry in the Dead Pool<br /><strong>Brandon Sopinsky:</strong> Lionheart<br /><strong>Casey Weldon:</strong> Lethal Weapon 2<br /><strong>Chris Murray:</strong> Dark Knight<br /><strong>Cory Benhatzel:</strong> Big Top Pee Wee<br /><strong>David MacDowell:</strong> Liar Liar <br /><strong>Irma Rivera:</strong> Friday the 13th<br /><strong>Israel Sanchez:</strong> The Front<br /><strong>Jeff McMillan:</strong> Raiders of the Lost Arc<br /><strong>Jeremy Nichols: </strong>The Fog<br /><strong>Joey D: </strong>Flashdance<br /><strong>Johnny Crap:</strong> Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome<br /><strong>Justin Kalmen:</strong> Aliens<br /><strong>Keith Noordzy:</strong> Beverly Hills Cop<br /><strong>Ken Garduno:</strong> Breakfast at Tiffany's<br /><strong>Kiersten Essenpreis:</strong> Animal House<br /><strong>Lawrence Yang:</strong> District 9<br /><strong>Le Merde:</strong> Buffalo 66<br /><strong>Martin Wittfooth:</strong> Total Recall<br /><strong>Matt Groller:</strong> Akira<br /><strong>Mylan Nguyen:</strong> Cocktail<br /><strong>Nathan Stapley:</strong> Coraline<br /><strong>Netherland:</strong> It’s a Wonderful Life<br /><strong>Phoneticontrol:</strong> Transformers<br /><strong>Roland Tamayo:</strong> A Perfect Storm<br /><strong>Scott Scheidly:</strong> Silent Hill<br /><strong>Shannon Bonatakis:</strong> Magnolia<br /><strong>Tim Tomkinson:</strong> Terminator 2 - Judgement Day<br /><strong>Tom Haubrick:</strong> North By Northwest<br /><strong>Wade Schin:</strong> Man on the Moon<br /><strong>Walt Hall:</strong> To Live & Die in L.A.<br /><br />As everyone received their poster, we got some mixed responses, but we have heard some really interesting ideas of what a few people are thinking of doing. But the majority of people I've heard from don't have a clue at this point, so Netherland, don't worry because you're not the only one who's stumped! Your son is soooo cute by the way!<br /><br />I think it would be cool to hear from an artist's perspective what the most desirable poster would be. Since I'm not an artist, I look at this in a completely different way. We definitely put thought into pairing the poster and artist, but I probably don't realize what factors are the most challenging (for instance a white background vs. color background).<br /><br />Here are some of the before shots of the posters...<br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/AKIRA.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/FRIDAYTHE13TH.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/LIARLIAR.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/ALIENS.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/MAGNOLIA.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/MANHATTAN.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/NORTHBYNORTHWEST.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/THEPERFECTSTORM.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/WILDTHINGS.jpg" />Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-72443421357771228552009-02-28T09:02:00.000-08:002009-02-28T09:08:44.298-08:00NetherlandI had my son Jack try to help me figure out some ideas of what to do with my poster. If Katie wanted it to be a challenge for us, she got her wish! I'm stumped! It should be a lot of fun though. I'll keep you posted on what I come up with...<br /><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMs-5Hry281_L3Jm13OoCXcfFgUDYfar69Poy-oWOLjaAQFLpXJldrGFxdNYe44fvJAJN6KIaWGkxBD1dPwbIF5oUW5Zi3beb3F6D1u-uBikQdhehpZLB-UzS4IM_J8CDj1zvqJHV6RA/s1600-h/IMG_2390.jpg"><img style="cursor: pointer; width: 300px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSMs-5Hry281_L3Jm13OoCXcfFgUDYfar69Poy-oWOLjaAQFLpXJldrGFxdNYe44fvJAJN6KIaWGkxBD1dPwbIF5oUW5Zi3beb3F6D1u-uBikQdhehpZLB-UzS4IM_J8CDj1zvqJHV6RA/s400/IMG_2390.jpg" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5307895985476452626" border="0" /></a>Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1416998682615991327.post-60919412107498058762009-02-19T17:02:00.000-08:002009-02-24T15:00:51.972-08:00"Now Playing"We've started this blog to document the progress of a show we're putting together at G1988 San Francisco later this year. We've never done this before, so it's sort of a little experiment. The show opens September 18<span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">th</span></span>, so we are very much in the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">beginning</span> stages. We thought this could be a fun way to see one of our shows come together.<br /><br />The show is called "Now Playing" and is the sister show of "Cover Band" from G1988 LA last year where each artist painted on an album cover from Rolling Stones Top 100. You can check out the work from last year's show at this link... <a href="http://1988covers.blogspot.com/">http://1988covers.blogspot.com/</a> to get an idea of where we're going with this.<br /><br />But to change it up a little, this year we're doing movie posters! The whole point is to collaborate with the already existing image on the poster, and keep in mind movie posters are huge, so this is no easy task! And to make it even more interesting, we're picking the poster for each artist. Last year the artists got to choose their top three from a list, but this year it's in our hands. So, some people might be a little out of their comfort zone, but it adds another level to the challenge.<br /><br />We began by finding the posters, and what better place than LA? Jensen volunteered for the job and is responsible for the assortment, so if any of you artists don't like your poster you can complain to him :) Seriously, he did a great job and supplied us with quite a variety, from Hitchcock's "North by Northwest" to "Cocktail" starring Tom Cruise, which has my favorite tagline of all time: "When he pours, he reigns." Brilliant!<br /><br />Here are a few teaser picks of a few that were chosen...<br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/PROGRESS-COCOON.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/PROGRESS-DARKKNIGHT.jpg" /><br /><br /><img src="http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/gallery1988sf/PROGRESS-INDIANAJONES.jpg" /><br /><br />We are now in the process of pairing artist with poster. We're still waiting for some posters to arrive, so we haven't assigned all of them yet. So for now I leave you with the very <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">exciting</span> artist line-up...<br /><br />2Cents<br />Aaron <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Jasinski</span></span><br />Andrew Hem<br />Andrew Wilson<br />Augie Pagan<br />Brandon <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">Sopinsky</span></span><br />Casey Weldon<br />Chris Murray<br />Cory <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">Benhatzel</span></span><br />David <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">MacDowell</span></span><br />Gene <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_5">Guynn</span></span><br />Irma Rivera<br />Israel Sanchez<br />Jeff McMillan<br />Jeremy Nichols<br />Joey D<br />Jonathan <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_6">Bergeron</span></span><br />Justin <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_7">Kalmen</span></span><br />Keith <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_8">Noordzy</span></span><br />Ken <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_9">Garduno</span></span><br />Kiersten <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_10">Essenpreis</span></span><br />Lawrence Yang<br />Le <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_11">Merde</span></span><br />Martin <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_15"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_12">Wittfooth</span></span><br /><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_16"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_13">Mylan</span></span> Nguyen<br />Nathan <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_17"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_14">Stapley</span></span><br /><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_18"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_15">Netherland</span></span><br />Pete <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_19"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_16">Wentz</span></span><br /><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_20"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_17">Phoneticontrol</span></span><br />Roland <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_21"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_18">Tamayo</span></span><br />Scott <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_22"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_19">Scheidly</span></span><br />Shannon <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_23"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_20">Bonatakis</span></span><br />Tim <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_24"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_21">Tomkinson</span></span><br />Tom <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_25"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_22">Haubrick</span></span><br />Wade <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_26"><span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_23">Schin</span></span><br />Walt Hall<br /><br />Up next, we'll let you know which poster each artist received and hopefully hear from a few of the artists.<br /><br />Until then, stay tuned.Gallery1988 Movie Postershttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04871277862278488875noreply@blogger.com3
